Digital Storytelling Association

Look what I found! I don't know if any of you have come accross this Website, but apparently there has been so much interest in and belief in the "power of digital storytelling" that professionals from all over the world came together to create an association dedicated to digital storytelling in November of 2002. The Website tells you all about their mission, why they were founded, and offers news and events related to digital storytelling. Anyone can join! The networking possibilities, I imagine, are extensive! If you join, you can also get access to an archive which has many examples of digital storytelling projects which might be helpful in creating your own. Take a look...

Barging Into the Bloggers' Circle

Last week in my Mass Communication & Society class I gave a presentation on Advertising. One of the articles I found to supplement my presentation was a Washington Post article from August of last year called "Barging into the Blogger's Circle; Web Logs Are Fertile New Territory for Introducing Products, Welcome or Not."

The article talked about this idea of the "digital grapevine" through which "companies can reap the marketing rewards of free publicity, higher rankings on search engines & immediate access to conversations with consumers." In the article, several avid bloggers commented on the desireability of this, that is marketers using Blogs to dissiminate product information. Some said they were not bothered by it and are happy to allow marketers and advertisers on their sites in exchange for the newest products and product news while others felt this practive made their blogs less credible to their readers in addition to taking the fun out of the whole blogging experience (turning it into a consumer vehicle and not a place for people to share ideas and insights with others).

In thinking about this, I thought what a perfect article to share in my blog. What do you guys thinks about this "digital grapevine?" Is allowing marketers and advertisers onto your blogs selling out or just business?

If you want to take a look at the whole article, I could not find a direct link but if you go under the library Web site and connect to Lexis Nexis, and search the title, it is the first one to come up. It's quite an interesting article. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Digital News

Hello everyone!

Check out this article on the latest in digital music. I am very big on music and thought this was very interesting. I need music at all times; while I study, shower, clean, eat, whatever! Everything is better with some tunes in the atmosphere so I like to keep up on new ways to aquire more of my favorite songs without getting into a tight spot with the law! Ha ha. It also has some cool new things happening in the music industry and talks about a cool new program, called PodSafe that gives podcasters access to music and other royalty free content for listening or podcast making. Check it out and as always, I hope you enjoy this week's little digital treasure, as I like to call them.

Class Blogs...

I just wanted to add that I am loving finding out about all these useful little Web site treasures and reading all of these interesting stories. There's so much out there if you just look. This blogging stuff is fun! Thanks everyone for your contributions.

This is kind of freaky!

Technology seems to be getting creepier and creepier. Check out this new product I found, talking lips. It is designed to allow people to have phone conversations free of hands or head sets by moving its lips ha ha when the caller speaks. Essentially you'd be having a conversation with a metal mouth! Scary, but quite a unique idea I must say. This is a UK site and although I'm not sure if it is available in the U.S., I'm sure you could have it shipped if you really want a little talking friend on your desk to help you with multi-tasking. I cannot get over this thing, it is too funny.
